European Consumer Payment Report 2020
The European Consuymer Payment Report 2020 is based on insights from 24,000 consumers across 24 European countries. It provides an overview of consumers' ability to pay bills on time and highlights evolving attitudes towards financial commitments. This report was released in November 2020.
Falling incomes and rising anxiety
Nearly half (47%) of consumers report feeling more concerned about their financial wellbeing than ever before due to the pandemic, with one in three (35%) stating they lost income as a direct result.
Increased borrowing amidst economic uncertainty
Around 21% of consumers have borrowed money to pay bills in the last six months. The reliance on borrowing has increased, with 61% of those who borrow money doing so monthly.
A shift towards improving financial literacy
As a response to economic challenges, 40% of consumers are actively working to improve their financial literacy, recognising the importance of understanding financial concepts to navigate their circumstances.
